  • eye receptors=rods and cones detect light intensity(light energy to electrical energy)
  • skin receptors=kinetic energy to electrical energy
  • muscle receptors=kinetic energy to electrical energy
  • hypothalamus=detects chemicals and body temp in blood(chemical energy to electrical energy)
  • in ears(kinetic energy to electrical energy)
  • blood vessels(kinetic to electrical energy)
• the nervous system

  • the central nervous system=brain and spinal cord
  • peripheral nervous system=all nerves in the body

  -the nervous system allows detection of stimulus, coordinates responses -to stimulus and sends as ELECTRICAL IMPULSES along neurones

  -CNS acts as the central co ordinating centre
• stimulus-receptor-sensory neurone(+relay)-CNS-motor neurone-effector
• hormonal/endocrine system

  • hormones=chemical messengers produced by endocrine glands and carried by the blood
  • hormones transmit information and bring change by altering activity of target organs
  • endocrine glands can be stimulated to produce hormones by the action of another hormone or nerve imoulse
