Food Chains

Cards (2)

  • Food chains show whats eaten by what in an ecosystem
    • always start with a producer (make their own food using the sun)
    • producers are usually green plants or algae they make glucose
    • some of the glucose is used to make other biological molecules
    • biological molecules are the plants biomass - mass of living material
    • biomass thought of an energy stored plant
    • energy is transferred through living organisms in an ecosystem when organisms eat other organisms
    • produces are eaten by primary consumers - eaten by secondary consumers - eaten by tertiary consumers
  • Population of Prey and Predators go in cycles
    • the population of any species is usually limited by the amount of food avaliable
    • if the population of the prey increases then so will the predators
    • if the population of predators increases the prey will decrease
