slt

    Cards (4)

    • what does slt believe
-bandura agreed with behaviourist that behaviour is learned from experience
-however his slt proposed a dif way in which ppl learn- through observation and imitation of others
-slt suggested that learning occurs directly through classical and operant conditioning but also indirectly
    • explain vicarious reinforcement
-an individual observes behaviour of others
-imitation only occurs if behaviour is seen to be rewarded rather than punished- vicarious reinforcement occurs
-so learner observes a behaviour AND also its consequence
    • describe the mediational processes
-attention: extent to which we notice behaviours
-retention: how well the behaviour is remembered
-motor reproduction: ability of observer to perform behaviour
-motivation: the will to perform behaviour, which is often determined by whether the behaviour was rewarded or punished
    • explain identification
-ppl are more likely to imitate ppl they identify with(identification)
-person they identify with is called role model
-the process of imitating a role model is called modelling
-a person becomes a model if they are seen to possess similar characteristics to the observer and/or are attractive+ have high status
