Cards (4)

  • Reaction time RP
    1. Person 1 sits on stool with good upright posture
    2. Person 1 places forearm of dominant hand across table, with hand overhanging edge
    3. Person 2 holds ruler vertically, with 0 cm mark between person 1's thumb and first finger
    4. Person 2 tells person 1 to prepare to catch ruler
    5. Person 2 drops ruler at random time
    6. Person 1 catches ruler as soon as possible with thumb and first finger
    7. Person 2 records measurement on ruler with top of person 1's thumb
    8. Repeat several times and calculate mean
    9. Convert results to reaction time using conversion table
    10. Swap roles and repeat steps to find different reaction times
  • Reaction time RP (variables)
    • Independent - the PERSON having their reaction time tested
    • Dependent - Reaction time
    • Control - Starting distance kept at thumb
  • Sampling organisms RP
    1. Calculate area of field
    2. Randomly place quadrat (0.5m x 0.5m) onto the field
    3. Count desired organisms in the quadrat
    4. Repeat this 9 more times for a total of 10 samples
    5. Estimate number of desired species using equation
  • Equation for sampling organisms RP
Total population size = total area / area sampled x number of organisms counted in samples
