Variables - Measures of body properties that may change in value Ex: - heart rate - Blood pressure - Blood glucose level
Normal Range - A normal extent of increase or decrease around a set point.
SetPoint - Normal or average value of a variable overtime, body temperature fluctuates around a set point.
Negative Feedback - Is the mechanism used for homeostatic regulation.
Detection: of deviation away from set point and; - correction: reversal of deviation toward set point and normal range
Positive Feedback - Mechanisms occur when the initial stimulus further stimulates the response
Our average body temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
A receptor monitors the value of a variable such as body temperature
A control center, such as part of the brain, establishes the set point around which the variable is maintained through communication with the receptors and effectors
An effector, such as sweat glands, can adjust the value of the variable, usually back toward the set point.
A changed variable is a stimulus because it initiates a response. It is the one that is changed.
Homeostasis is the condition in which body functions, body fluids, and other factors of the internal environment are maintained at levels suitable to support life.
