peat bogs

• peat bogs have been destroyed by humans because:

  • increased population
  • therefore more land needed for agriculture
  • peat can be used as fuel
  • peat can be used as compost
• important to prevent further peat bogs from being destroyed:

  • prevent reduction in biodiversity
  • removal of habitats can disrupt migration patterns
  • destruction of food chain
  • global warming as it emits carbon dioxide
  • draining land leads to flooding
