    Self-contained areas of offices, retail and leisure centres, close to major transport links on outskirts of city centre
    • Majority developed due to suburbanisation and ↑ car ownership
    • Decentralisation of retail occurred
  • Features of an edge city:
    • 600,000 sq feet of retail space
    • Single end destination - it has it all, entertainment, retail, more jobs than homes
    • Beyond edge of original city boundary
    • Urban sprawl
    • Airports
    • Car based
    • Wide range of amenities to live separate from the city
    Negatives:
    • ↑ social segregation, the wealthy move
    EXAMPLE: Tysons Corner and LA with 20 edge cities
