equilibrium

• Static equilibrium:

  ·      A motionless state in which there is no net force or net torque.  Conditions:

  (vertical force, horizontal force, torque) are equal to zero.
• Centre of gravity:

  ·      Point where body weight is equally balanced in all directions (centre of mass).
• Stability:

  •   resistance to disruption of equilibrium.

  Increasing stability:

  • Increasing body mass
  • Increasing friction between body/surface.

  Balance:

  •   Persons ability to control equilibrium.
