• Capitalism is an economic system where private individuals/companies own most of the resources and make decisions about how to use these resources
• Marxists believe that capitalist societies are divided into two classes - bourgeoisie (capitalists) and proletariat (workers)
• Capitalism is negative because it is a system that is based on the exploitation of workers via conflict with the bourgeoisie. Communism is seen as the fair approach to society, where we create and share all wealth.
• Derived from the industrial era and known as the opposite to functionalism.
• Marxists believe meritocracy does not exist due to class inequality.
