Baptism

• • Baptism is the cleansing from Original Sin
  • The Bible states, "No one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they born of water and the Spirit."
• Infant baptism:

  • Practised by Catholic/Fundemental Christians
  • Some believe that Heaven can only be entered by those who are baptised
  • Sign of cross is made on baby's head in oil, and then sprinkled with holy water
  • Priest gives child's guardians lit candle at end to symbolise receiving light of Christ
• Adult baptism:

  • Practised by Protestant/Liberal Christians

  Some Christians practise baptism as an adult because:

  • Is an important commitment so people can choose for themselves
  • Christians should follow Jesus' example of being baptised as an adult
  • No examples of infant baptism in Bible - Bible supports adult baptism
  • Involves total immersion three times
