  • Test for reducing sugars
    Add food sample to Benedict's reagent, heat, observe colour change
  • Test for starch
    Add iodine solution, blue-black colour indicates presence of starch
  • Test for lipids/fats
    1. Rub food on sugar paper, presence of lipid makes paper translucent
    2. Add food, water, and alcohol, white precipitate indicates presence of lipid
  • Test for proteins
    Add biuret reagent, purple colour indicates presence of protein
