RENAL CORPUSCLE

Cards (11)

  • RENAL CORPUSCLE
    ● filtration apparatus of the nephron
    ● each corpuscle consists of two main elements
  • Two Main Elements
    = Glomerulus
    • cluster of blood vessels
    • fenestrated capillaries
    • connective tissue ~ Mesangial cells
    • extraglomerular
    • intraglomerular
  • Two Main Elements
    = Glomerular / Bowman's Capsule
    • Double-walled envelope
    • comprise of the inner visceral and outer parietal layer
  • Renal Corpuscle
    ● produces glomerular ultrafiltrate
    ● spherical structure
    ● an initial dilated part enclosing a tuft of capillary loops and the site of blood filtration
  • MEDICAL APPLICATION
    = Polycystic kidney disease
= an inherited disorder in which normal cortical organization of both kidneys is lost due to the formation of multiple, large, fluid-filled cysts. The cysts may arise from any epithelial cells of the nephron and can lead to gross kidney enlargement and loss of renal function.
  • = EFERENT ARTERIOLES enter while the AFFERENT ARTERIOLES leave the glomerulus at vascular pole while ultrafiltrate leave corpuscle at renal pole
  • = Capillaries forming glomerulus are fenestrated and their endothelium rests on a thick basal lamina
  • = Parietal layer
    • formed by simple squamous cells
  • = Visceral layer
    • formed by podocytes
  • = Connective tissue stroma of the glomerulus is constituted by mesangial cells, which support the glomerular capillaries
  • Function of Mesangial cell
    • phagocytic
    • contractile
    • support
