• The Inspector arrives and explains that a girl has committed suicide and opens his interrogations of The Birling household.

  "I'd like some information if you don't mind, Mr Birling. Two hours ago a woman died in the infirmary".
• The inspector accuses Mr Birling of firing Eva to ignite her bad luck.

  "What happend afterwards may have driven her to suicide. A chain of events".
• The Inspector reveals that Eva changes her name to Daisy Renton, pressuring Gerald to reveal the truth regarding his affair with Eva Smith.

  "Now she had to try something else. So first she changed her name to Daisy Renton".
• The Inspector warns the Birling family that their actions impact other people.

  "We don't live alone. We are members of one body We are responsible for eachother".
• The Birlings think that the Inspector may be false. However the older generation (Mr Birling, Mrs Birling, Gerald) celebrate for this response however Sheila and Eric are oppressed by their overbearing guilt.
