• DETERMINATION OF PARASITEMIA THICK SMEARS

  • 2 tally counters, one for parasites and one for WBC
• DETERMINATION OF PARASITEMIA THICK SMEARS

  • If after 200 WBC were counted: 10 or more parasites are identified -record; showing no. of parasites/200 WBCs.
• DETERMINATION OF PARASITEMIA THICK SMEARS

  • If after 200 WBC were counted: 9 or less parasites identified, continue until 500 WBC is reached- record no. of parasites/ 500 WBCs.
• DETERMINATION OF PARASITEMIA THICK SMEARS

  • Relation to WBC count can be converted to parasites/uL: No. of Parasites X 8000 = parasites/Ul I No. of Leukocyte.
