Magnets

• All magnets have two poles
• All magnets produce a magnetic field, this is a region where other magnets or magnetic materials experience a force
• Field lines always go from north to south
• The closer together the lines, the stronger the force
• If two poles are near eachother they will exert a force on eachother. This can be attractive or repulsive
• Compasses

  • Points in the direction of the magnetic field it is in
  • Has a bar magnet inside it
  • You can move a compass and trace its field
  • They always point north as the earth had a magnetic field
• Permanent magnets produce their own magnetic field
• Induced magnets are magnetic materials which turn into a magnet when they’re put into a magnetic field
