  • Basic units that make up vidual arrangements:

    Form -is a three dimensional alternative to shape.
    Value -describes the color intensity.
    Pattern -describes repetition.
  • A shaped can be geometric such as square or circle, or can be organic such as free-form or natural shape
  • Form is a three-dimensional. examples are balls, cylinders, boxes and pyramids
  • Space is the area surrounding objects is often called negative space
  • A color is the reflection of light off an object. It is defined by three features;

    Hue -is the name of the color like red, blue and green
    Value -is the lightness or darkness of the color
    Intensity -is the Brightness or Dullness of the color
  • The only actual color is the Primary colors like red, blue and yellow. Secondary color combines two primary colors such as green, orange and violet
  • Intermediate colors known as tertiary colors combined with secondary and primary hues such as yellow-green etx
  • The visible and tactile characteristics of surface is called texture
  • An average museum visitor looks at a work of art for 17 seconds
  • These are the 6 steps to look and interpret any visual arts in everyday life:

  • The image is ready for analysis through 4 perspectives once the details have been absorbed;

    when we blend all of that we gain Interpretation
  • Visual text was used by John Debes, the founder of the International Visual Literacy Association in 1969.
  • Visual literacy is the ability to decode meaning from a variety if visuals. Regardless of the image's nature, this technique follows a three fundamental steps:

    1. what do you think you can see?
    2. How does it make you feel?
    3. What is the image trying to tell us?
  • Visual Technology is any technology that takes, organizes, filters, learns from, or provides visual content to consumers or businesses

    -drawings, religious motifs, either animistic or islam based, were depicted on the rocks

    -american brought education in PH like UPD, Silimin U., and Central Philippine U.
    -popularized Art Nouveau style
    -landcapes, still lifes, portraits are reserved for high-ranking authorities

    4. Japanese Colonial art period(1941-1945) lasted 5 years
    -filipinos were victims of the japanese occupation
    -filipinos lack freedom
    -japanese invasion brought fear, suffering, and death

    5. Post-colonial art period(1946-1969) lasted 24 years
    -known as The Philippine Modern Art Era
    -public art is conservative, modern, experimental

    6. Contemporary art period (1970-present) lasted 52yrs and 17 days
    -filipino’s greater freedom of speech and expression
    -digital art, photograph, junk art, pencil tip, miniature etc
    -editorial illustration is used for political or social problems
    -art is used to raise awareness
