FRACTIONS

Cards (16)

  • Fractions - a numerical quantity that is not a whole number.
  • Proper Fraction - is a fraction that has a smaller numerator than denominator, and represents a number less than 1. Example : 18/25, 19/45, 62/78, 1/6, 1/9
  • Improper Fraction : is a number greater than one whole. Example : 17/5, 9/4, 13/4, 16/3, 5/2
  • Mixed Fraction : is a combination of a proper fraction and a whole number. Example : 2 1/3, 5 2/5, and 3 3/4
  • Like Fraction : is a collection of two or more fractions with the same denominator. Example : 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 7/4, and 4/4
  • Unlike Fraction : is called the unlike fractions. Here the denominators of fractions have different values. Example : 2/3, 4/9, 6/67, 9/89
  • Unit Fraction - is a positive fraction with one as its numerator, 1/n. It is the multiplicative inverse of the denominator of the fraction, which must be a positive natural number. Example : 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5
  • Equivalent Fractions : are two or more fractions that are all equal even though they different numerators and denominators. Example : 2/4 and 3/6
  • Reciprocal Fraction : obtained by swapping or interchanging Numerator and Denominator with each other. Example : the reciprocal of 2/3 is 3/2.
  • Numerator - the number above the line in a common fraction showing how many of the parts indicated by the denominator are taken, for example, 2 in 2/3.
  • Denominator - the number below the line in a common fraction; a divisor. For example, 4 in 3/4.
  • Mixed Number - A mixed number consists of both whole numbers and fractions. Mixed numbers are written using a whole number followed by a fraction. Example: 2 ¼, 3 ¾, 5 ⅓.
  • Improper Fraction - An improper fraction is any fraction where the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator. In an improper fraction, the numerator can never be zero. Example: 5/3, 10/5, 12/4.
  • Improper Fraction - An improper fraction is any fraction whose numerator is greater than or equal to its denominator. The sum of an integer and a proper fraction is always an improper fraction.
  • Proper Fraction - A proper fraction is any fraction where the numerator (top) is less than the denominator (bottom). For instance, ½, ¾, ⅕, etc.
  • Proper Fraction - A proper fraction is any fraction whose value is less than 1. The numerator is always smaller than the denominator. Example: ½ (half), ⅔ (two-thirds).
