    • Veterans unable to work lived off government pensions: others went to school or into trades with government grant
    • Received loans to purchase land, stock, and equipment to start farms through what was called the Soldier Settlement Act
    • Could not find stable work because women and technological advances 
    • Indigenous veterans were excluded from government sponsored programs
    • Economic slump due to war ending
    • Industries that produce weapons for war temporarily shut down and switched to peacetime production
    • Countries in Europe began to grow their wheat leaving Canadian farmers to lose a lot of their overseas markets
    • Prices rose after the war because government took off price restrictions
    • Labour and union movements began to form and a new social outlook began to develop (i.e. Winnipeg General Strike)
