  • It was hugely publicised and inspired sit ins in other areas
• • The SNCC was set up by the SCLC and CORE to train students on how to do peaceful sit ins
• • The media were supportive as the protests were not violent
  • White people began to join the protests despite threats
  • Over 50,000 people joined in April
