  • Teddy boys
    Working class youths. They have an eduardian style, suede shoes, bootlace ties. It rose due to expansion of employment.
    • Clarke – Teddy Boys represented an exaggerated version of working-class masculinity and a symbolic resistance to the erosion of traditional working-class communities.
  • Mods
    Working class/lower middle class. They worse parkas and had italian scooters, inspired by Elvis Presley.
    • Hebdige - mods were working class, but were smart and cool, with their italian suits and scooters. They spent money on these things to resist oppression from the middle class
  • Punks
    Hebdige – argued a process of bricolage (reuse of ordinary objects) occurred in punk culture. Concept of incorporation – subversive styles are often taken over by the media and fashion
