Mechanisms 1

Cards (11)

  • A mechanism is a device that converts and input motion and force, into an output motion and force.
  • Linear:
    • moving in a straight line
    • ➡️
    • eg - A train running along a straight strack
  • Rotary:
    • Turning, moving around in a circle
    • 🔄
    • eg - turing a wheel
  • Reciprocating:
    • Moving back and forth in a straight line.
    • ↔️
    • Sawing a piece of wood
  • Oscillating:
    • swinging from side to side in an arc
    • ↩️↪️
    • eg - A pendulum swinging in a clock
  • A lever is a rigid bar that pivots around a fulcrum.
  • The fulcrum is the point around which the lever turns
  • The load is the output force.
  • The effort is the input force that you apply to move the load
  • mechanical advantage= load(force in newtons) ÷ effort(force in newtons)
  • FLE -
    • Fulcrum in the middle
    • Load in the middle
    • Effort in the middle
