  • "A small matter" - Scrooge's response to Bob Cratchit being ill.
  • Want. The idea that a huge section of the population were left ‘wanting’ basic things like food, shelter and warmth whilst the other classes were rich and happy.
  • Ignorance. The ignorance of the richer classes towards the needs and condition of the lower class people.
  • Dickens wants to show that by ignoring these issues society will produce sickly, ugly children in the future- they are dirty with no hope
  • “I wear the chain I forged in life” - Marley’s words about the consequences of his actions.
  • The Ghost of Christmas Present shows us what happens when we ignore our responsibilities to others.
  • Scrooge is shown as an example of how not to be – he has ignored his own family and friends and now he is alone and miserable.
