A checkpoint checks if cell is large enough and if DNA is copied properly.
Cancer occurs when checkpoints fail and mutations to cell DNA arnt detected. Some mutations cause cell to skip G0 resting phase and start the cell cycle again.
A cell will do cell limbo or apoptopsis if it detects a problem.
If cells interfere with surrounding cells: malignant.
If cells don't interfere with surrounding cells: benign.
Cancer is caused by carcinogens in the environment which are external factors that affect a cells ability to control how often it divides and damage DNA.
Cancer cells usually have an unsual number of chromosomes due to incomplete mitosis or cytokinesis. They also have an abnormal shape.
Cells can lose attachment to nearby tissue and cause problems at other areas which is called metastasis.
