Metaphase I

• The chromosomes will line up at the equator in pairs and attach to the spindle fibres
• Chromosomes lie horizontal so that each chromatid is faced away from each other.
• Nucleus is dissolved
• The positioning of chromosomes along the equator is random - this allows them to be sorted in no particular pattern (independent assortment)
