  • How to test for hydrogen
    Using a burning splint which is held on the open side of the test tube, it will burn rapidly with a pop sound

    Using a glowing splint which is inserted into the test tube which then relights in oxygen
  • How to test for chlorine
    Using litmus paper, when the litmus paper is damp and put into chlorine gas the paper will be bleached and turned white
  • How to test for carbon dioxide
    Using an aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide (lime water) when carbon dioxide is shaken or bubbled through the limewater, it will turn milky.
