Variations

Cards (6)

  • A species is a group of organisms that can interbreed to produce fertile offspring. Members of a species share the same physical characteristics. Differences between individuals of a species can be measured and recorded. the difference that occur both between different species and within the same species are called variations.
  • Continuous Variation and Discontinuous Variation.
  • Variation is impft any for the survival of species. If all organisms were identical and a change in the environment occurred That none of the organism were adapted to survive, then the species would be extinct. 4 inherited characteristics are:
    1. Natural Eye Colour
    2. Natural Hair Colour
    3. Blood Group
    4. Some Inherited Diseases
  • Variations in humans can be due to inherited factors, environmental facts or a combination of both. When humans reproduce via sexual reproduction, the nuclei of the male sex cell and the femal sex cell fuse. This cannot happen the same way twice, which makes each individual unique. Environmental variations are features that are due to the condition in a persons surroundings.
  • Natural selection is organisms that are better adapted to their environment survive and are more likely to survive and to breed and pass on those traits to their offspring.
  • In selective breeding, males and females showing desired features are bred together. from their offspring, those that show the most desired characteristics are then bred together. this process is repeated over many generation.
