Digestions

• Salivary glands produce amylase, which breaks down starch into glucose
• Stomach pummels food and it produces hydrochloric acid to kill bacteria and makes right pH for proteas to work
• Pancreas produces protease, amylase and lipase.
• Small intestine absorbs the digested food into the blood system
• Large intestine absorbs excess water for food
• Gall bladder is a sac that stores bile and releases it into the small intestine
• Liver produces bile
• Alveoli carry out gas exchange
• Alveoli have 3 adaptations

  1. Good blood supply- maintain the blood concentration
  2. Many alveoli- increases surface area for diffusion
  3. One cell thick- short diffusion path
