  • What is PERMISSION?
    It is an authorisation granted for something or a formal consent.

  • We can use the modal "can"
    1. To give permission or ask for permission
    2. For familiar people because it is less polite
  • We can use the modal "could"
    1. To express a statement saying somebody is allowed to do something in the past but not in the future
    2. As a more polite and formal modal in asking permission
  • The modal "may" is the most polite and formal way to ask and give permission.
  • The modal "might" is used  for respect and politeness.
  • What is PROHIBITION?
    • A statement that does not allow an action
    • Opposite of giving permission
