Plant Defences Response

• Physical plant defences:

  • Bark - Layer of dead cells to protect from pathogens
  • Waxy Cuticle - Barrier to prevent pathogens entering
  • Thorns - Protects itself from predators
  • Leaves of deciduous trees - Gets rid of pathogen ridden leaves
• Chemical plant defences:

  • Cyanide - deter predators eating them
  • Insecticides - kills insects
  • Insect repellents - repel vectors
  • Antibacterial- kills any bacteria in body
• Other defences are mimicry of more dangerous plants and drooping to scare predators
