  • cognitive dissonance and changing attitudes
triadic model consists of cognitive, behavioural and affective. cognitive dissonance is when two attitudes conflict each other and cause dissonance
  • aggression
instinct theory states it is - natural, high arousal, survival response, caused by others aggression
  • arousal and catastrophe theory

Catastrophe theory is a sudden drop off in arousal where the sudden drop equates to a decrease in performance. However before it drops it has to reach a peak and as that peak slowly rises, so does arousal and performance. The peak is the highest arousal and best performance. The drop is straight after and is when there is over arousal which leads to a decrease in performance. However, if the performer does drop, they can get back up to prior levels if they manage to successfully compose themselves - otherwise they will fall further
  • Need to achieve performers NACH
confident, welcome competition, take risks, pride from performance, welcome feedback
  • Need to avoid failure NAF
Give up easily, not like feedback, easy options, lack confidence, avoid 50/50 challenges
