• matter - has mass; takes up space by having volume
• density - mass/volume
• malleability - the ability to be hammered into a thin sheets
• electrical conductivity - ability to transfer electricity
• extensive properties - depend on how much matter a sample contains
• intensive properties - do not depend on the amount of matter in a sample
• reactivity - tendency of matter to combine chemically with other substances
• flammability - tendency of matter to burn
• toxicity - the extent to which chemicals may harm orgnisms
• acidity - ability to react with an acid
• solid - very compact; molecules are right next to each other; has its own shape and volume
• liquid - slightly spread apart; change shape depends on container; has definite volume
• gas - widely spaced out; takes up all available space; no definite volume or shape
• plasma - ionized gas (super high temperature)
• melting - solid to liquid
• freezing - liquid to solid
• evaporation - liquid to gas
• condensation - gas to liquid
• deionization - plasma to gas
• ionization - gas to plasma
• sublimation - solid to gas
• deposition - gas to solid
