states of matter and mixtures

• solid particles are in a fixed,regular arrangement and vibrate in one place and are close to one another
• liquid particles move around each other, are randomly arranged and they are close to one another
• gas particles are far apart, are randomly arranged and move quickly in all directions
• changes of states :

  • solid - liquid is melting
  • liquid - solid is freezing/solidifying
  • liquid - gas is evaporating/boiling
  • gas - liquid is condensing
• during melting, evaporating and boiling the particles lose energy and break apart from their bonds
• during condensing and freezing the particles lose energy and and bonds form between the particles
