Lie in order to avoid the consequences of confession. They are afraid of embarrassment and they believe that confession will just make the matter worse.
Occupational Liars
Considered to be practical liars for they lie when it has a higher "pay off" than telling the truth
Tournament Liars
Love to lie and are excited by the challenge of not being detected. For them an interview is a contest that they want to win; they realize that they will probably be convicted but will not give anyone the satisfaction of hearing them confess.

The most difficult type; these persons have no conscience and show no regret for dishonesty and manifestation of guilt.

White Liars
Don't usually think of themselves as true "liars". They justify their lies as harmless and beneficial.
