Measures of central tendency

• Mean

  Strengths: most sensitive measure, uses all data, most representative of the whole data

  Limitations: can become unrepresentative if has extreme values
• Median

  Strengths: not affected by extreme values which makes it representative

  Limitations: less sensitive than mean, doesn't use all values
• Mode

  Strengths: useful when data is in categories

  Limitations: not useful way of describing data if there are several modes
