Period of Communicability
Cases are infectious for up to a week (normally 2 days) before parotid swelling until 9 days after<|>48-hours period immediately preceding onset of swelling is considered the time of highest communicability

Swelling of the parotid gland (between the earlobe and angle of the mandible)
