Cards (6)

  • Population - group where numbers have something in common, that is, the total set of observation that can be made - G11 SHS Students
  • Sample - a smaller group or subset of the population in question - 12 G11 SHS STUDENTS
  • Sample Size - number of observations or individuals included in a study or experiment/# of values
  • Criteria in Determining the Sample Size:
    1. Level of Precision (Margin of Error) - refers to the detail or exactness of a measurement
    2. Level of Confidence - the probability that the sample obtained is the representative of the true population value
    3. Degree of Variability - measure the spread or dispersion of data points around the central tendency - how much variance do you expect in your research ( p = .5 )
  • Parameter - describes an entire population
    1. 45% of senior citizens in Metro Manila are male
    2. The average daily wage of all employees of certain company is 585 pesos
  • Statistic - describes only the sample
    1. 25 out of 100 randomly chosen grade 11 students belong to STEM strand
