Plants Taxonomy

• Tropism - slow and permanent reaction by plants
• Phototropism - to light
• Geotropism - to gravity
• Thigmotropism - to touch
• Plant Hormones (AGEAC):

  1. Auxin - cell differentiation, cell elongation, plant growth
  2. Gibberellin - stem elongation, flower development
  3. Ethylene - ripening of fruit
  4. Abscisic acid - water control, control of stomata
  5. Cytokinin - cell division, cell repair
• Female part of a flower: pistil (stigma, style, ovary, ovules)
• Male part of a flower: stamen (anther and filament)
• Non-vascular plants (bryophytes) - no xylem and phloem; no roots, stems or leaves, reproduce through spores, e.g. mosses, liverworts, hornworts
• Vascular plants is divided into 2:

  1. Pteridophytes
  2. Seed plants
• Pteridophytes - mostly ferns, only have roots, stems and fronds, reproduce by spores
• Seed plants is divided into 2: Gymnosperms and Angiosperms
• Gymno is non flowering and angio is flowering
• gymnosperms - mostly conifers (cone-bearing); e.g pine tree, ginkgo, cycad
