  • Europe in the 1400-1500s
    The Catholic Church dominated Europe. Countries and individuals began to break away from the Catholic Church and develop new ways of practicing Christianity. This became known as the Protestant Reformation. The new forms of Christianity introduced became known as Protestant.
  • How the Tudors gained power
    1. Members of the royal family were arguing about who should be king. It involved two sides of the same family; the York side and the Lancaster side. Both sides were related to Edward III, and both felt they had the right to rule the country.
    2. This tension became too much when both Henry VI and Richard of York felt they should rule England.
    3. This resulted in a series of wars (The Wars of the Roses) breaking out between the families in order to determine who would rule the country.
  • Europe had a lot of tension within it during the 1400-1600s. This was mainly due to religious issues.
  • It was within this context, that there was a huge change in the British monarchy.
