Plant Organization

Cards (12)

  • The Shoot System
    -Above ground usually, elevates the
    plant above the soil.
    -Functions for photosynthesis,
    reproduction, dispersal, food and water
    conduction
  • The Root System
    -Underground usually, anchor the plant
    in the soil.
    -Funtions includes absorption and
conduction of water and nutrients, as
    well as food storage.
  • THE ORGANS A.Roots
    B. Stems
    C. Leaves
    D. Flowers and fruits
  • THE TISSUES A. Dermal Tissue (Simple Permanent)
    B. Ground Tissue (Simple
    Permanent)
    C. Vascular Tissue (Complex
    Permanent)
    D. Meristematic Tissue
  • Two Classes of Angiosperm: Monocot and Eudicot
  • MONOCOTS
-Root xylem and phloem in a ring
    -Vascular bundles scattered in stem
    -Leaf veins are parallel patterned
    -Flowers have multiple of threes
  • EUDICOT
-Root phloem between arms of xylem
-Vascular bundles in distinct ring in stem
-Leaf veins form a net pattern
    -Flowers have multiple of fives
  • Method in Sectioning: Longitudinal and Cross/Transverse
  • Two Types of Longitudinal Section: Tangential and Radial
  • Tangential Section – longitudinal section
of a stem. Near the epidermis.
  • Radial Sectionlongitudinal section of a
stem that follows the radius of the stem.
It follows and is parallel to a vascular
    ray.
  • Cross/Transverse Section - a section formed by
a plane cutting at right angles to an axis.
