    Cards (15)

    • Two aliphatic amino acid are glycine and alanine
    • Two acidic amino acids are aspartic acid and glutamic acid
    • Two basic amino acids are leucine and isoleucine
    • Two aromatic amino acids are tyrosine and tryptophan
    • Glycogen has alpha 1-4 glycosidic bonds and is branched
    • Cellulose and chitin both have beta 1-4 glycosidic bonds and no branching
    • Chitin has acetylglucosamine on C2
    • Proteoglycan are proteins in the core that are connected to glycosaminoglycans that form massive complexes with long filaments of hyaluronate. They interact with collagen and form a mesh that provide tissue strength
    • Metalloproteins are proteins with a metal ion in their structures which facilitate catalysis, electron transport and oxygen transport.
    • A commonly occuring phospholipid is a phosphatidylcholine
    • Prostaglandin is a lipid involved in inflammation
    • Acid that disassociates in water is a strong acid
    • A protein associated with the plasma membrane is peripheral plasma protein
    • Beta oxidation:
Acyl CoA is oxidised to Enoyl CoA by Acyl CoA dehydrogenase.
Enoyl CoA is hydrated and H2O is split into H and OH and form hydroxyacyl CoA by Enoyl CoA Hydratase.
Hydroxyacyl CoA is oxidised to form 3-Ketoacyl CoA by hydroxyacyl CoA dehydrogenase.
Thiol group of CoA-SH attacks the beta-gamma carbon bonds of 3-Ketoacyl CoA liberating 2 carbons which bind to CoA and form Acetyl CoA.
    • glycogen storage diseases
type 1 - def in glucose 6 phosphatase
type 2 - def in acid alpha glucosidase
type 3 - build up of abnormal glycogen
type 5 - def in myophoshorylase
