    • Valve issue

  • Left Sided CHF
    • HFrEF
    • systolic
    • most common
    • low CO
    • L ventricle does not contract normally
  • Left Sided CHF
    • HFpEF
    • diastolic
    • from volume overload
    • L ventricle loses ability to relax normally
    • EF is still low than it was before CHF developed
  • Sx of Left HF
    • dyspnea
    • orthopnea
    • fatigue
    • chronic cough
    • sudden wt gain
  • Right Sided Heart Failure
    • usually due to L sided HF
    • R side of the heart fails, blood backs up into the body’s veins
    • Causing swelling of legs, ankles, and abdomen
  • Signs of R sided HF
    • peripheral edema
    • jugular vein distention
    • ascites
    • enlarged liver and spleen
    • signs of L ventricular failure
