Specific Heat Capacity

    Cards (6)

    • Internal Energy → The total energy stored by the particles making up a substance or system.
    • Two types of internal energy → Potential Energy stores and Kinetic energy stores.
    • Kinetic Energy Stores → The movement energy of the particles in an object. Heating up a substanceIncreases the kinetic energy of the particles → Increases internal energyIncreases temperature.
    • Specific Heat Capacity → The amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1KG of a substance by 1°C.
Could also be thought as amount of energy released a substance cools.
    • More internal Energy → Higher the temperature will be.
    • ΔE=ΔE =mcΔT mcΔT
ΔE  → Change in internal energy (Joules, J), m  → Mass (KG), c  →Specific Heat Capacity (J/KG°C), ΔT → Change in temp.
