Multi-store model

Cards (6)

  • the sensory memory store codes via the senses, has a large capacity and has a duration of milliseconds.
  • the short term memory codes acoustically, has a capacity of 7+/-2 and has a duration of approx. 30 seconds.
  • what does information need in order to transfer to the short term memory?
    attention
    1. what happens in the short term memory?
    2. what do these mean?
    decay + displacement
decay - information being lost over time
displacement - old information being pushed out by new information
  • the long term memory store codes semantically, has an unlimited capacity and has the capacity of a lifetime.
  • explain retrieval, rehearsal and rehearsal loop?
retrieval is info going from the LTM back to the STM. rehearsal is going over info in the STM in order for it to go into the LTM. rehearsal loop is the part of memory that rehearses verbal info.
