    • Describes the processes in a series of distinct steps, structures or processes - produce a model of what's going on
    • Pictorial in nature - represented by boxes and arrows that indicate what's going on
      Example - multistore model of memory and working model memory - simplified representations of how memory is structured and how it works
    • Components can be tested individually and examined in detail
    • Cognitive model can be a work in progress, changed, updated and refined in the light of evidence
