    main clause which states what is true if the condition of the protasis is fulfilled
  • future more vivid
    seen as a certainty, or at least very likely; future or future perfect indicative used in both parts

    should-would conditions; may or may not happen; uses present subjunctive in both parts (future in apodosis if action is completed); implies uncertainty
  • contrary-to-fact
    protasis is contrary to known facts or impossible; implies protasis did not happen and cannot happen now; subjunctive (imperfect for continuation, pluperfect for completion)

    indicative; no implications; protasis is indicative; apodosis can be imperative, indicative, or subjunctive
