Tolerance Limits: Thermoregulation

• Human tolerance limit = 37oC
• 37oC is the optimal temperature range for enzymes which are responsible for all of the cells metabolic activity
• If the internal temperature rises above 40oC, a life threatening situation called hyperthermia occurs
• If the internal temperature drops below 37oC, a life threatening situation called hypothermia occurs
