The nervous system

• The nervous system is one of two systems responsible for detecting and responding to stimuli from the internal and external environment
• Nervous responses are involved where more rapid direct communication is required
• Nervous system is the main communication centre of the body 
• It receives, processes and responds to stimuli you get from the environment
• The nervous system is divided into two regions 

  • The central nervous system (CNS) - the brain and spinal cord 
  • The peripheral nervous system (PNS) all the other nerves radiating out from the CNS around the body
