Pituitary gland

• Is the ‘master gland’ and works closely with the hypothalamus
• Releases hormones that regulate various bodily functions
• It has two main parts: 

  • Anterior pituitary: releases hormones that influence growth, reproduction and metabolism 
  • Posterior pituitary: releases hormones such as antidiuretic hormone (ADH), which helps regulate water balance and oxytocin, which influences childbirth and lactation
