• Not directly involved in homeostasis
• It processes sensory information and coordinates voluntary responses that can affect homeostatic balance
• For example: 

  • Prefrontal cortex: involved in decision making and can influence behaviour related to hunger, thirst and temperature regulation 
  • Motor cortex: controls voluntary movements that can affect body temperature and energy expenditure
