  • Trials
    District, Circuit and High Court judges can hear civil trials in the County Court or the High Court.  Pre-trial judges deal with case management to ensure the case moves quickly, such as setting timetables for preparation of the case.
  • Trials (2)
    During the case, the judge will listen to the evidence on both sides.  They may ask questions to ensure both parties are able to put the key issues forward, but must remain impartial.  During the trial they may be required to rule on areas of the law. 
    Once the trial is concluded, the judge will then decide the winning party and any remedy.  This could include a payment of damages or an injunction.
  • Appeals
    • all judges can hear civil appeals. Irately decide whether leave to appeal should be granted which requires individual to establish grounds to appeal
    • hearing the appeal judges will review law or decision made by judges below they may decide to reverse confirm or vary decision
  • Appeals (2)
    • superior judges in Supreme Court ,CoA, high court may set a precedent and clarify the law .
    • judges may sit alone as in the high court or as a panel in CoA
